When should we consider an evaluation?
Timing depends on age and health history. Many couples seek evaluation after a year of regular unprotected intercourse; earlier assessment is often appropriate from age 35, with irregular periods, known reproductive conditions, or other concerns.
Should both partners be assessed?
Often, yes. Fertility can be affected by female factors, male factors, both, or unexplained causes, so a complete assessment may include both partners.
Does an evaluation always lead to fertility treatment?
No. The first goal is to understand possible factors and options. Recommendations may include timing guidance, treating an identified condition, further testing, or referral.
When symptoms are urgent
Severe or rapidly worsening symptoms, heavy bleeding, fainting, chest pain, difficulty breathing, or a possible pregnancy emergency require prompt assessment. Contact local emergency services or go to the nearest emergency department.
