Common questions
Frequently asked questions
What information should I track?
If possible, note the dates, duration, flow, pain, spotting, and related symptoms. A calendar or phone app can help.
When is heavy bleeding urgent?
Seek urgent care for very heavy bleeding accompanied by fainting, severe weakness, chest pain, shortness of breath, severe pain, or possible pregnancy. If you are uncertain, contact a clinician or emergency service promptly.
Can stress affect my cycle?
Yes, but stress is only one possible contributor. Pregnancy, weight changes, medications, hormonal conditions, and other health concerns may also affect periods.
When symptoms are urgent
Severe or rapidly worsening symptoms, heavy bleeding, fainting, chest pain, difficulty breathing, or a possible pregnancy emergency require prompt assessment. Contact local emergency services or go to the nearest emergency department.
